After driving about 10 miles or so, my rpm continually increases to 4 then 5 then 6 and so on without any shifting. But the car’s speed usually hovers around 25mph. Any thoughts on what might be the problem? P.S. I have changed both the transmission fluid and filter without any success. ---

Mileage and age of car? How often (miles/time) has the transmission fluid been changed? You change transmission fluid to prevent future problems, not to solve present ones. The odds are that you waited too late and now need the transmission repaired or replaced. ---

The car has about 75000 miles and it’s a 2001. The transmission fluid wasn’t changed on a consistent basis. March was the first month that it was changed in over 5 years or so. Any idea how much a rebuild or replacement would cost for this vehicle? ---

The cost will be far, far more than five years’ worth of transmission fluid changes, I’m afraid. Keep that in mind for the future. You’ll probably get the best work at a fair price from a local independent transmission shop, not from a dealer and definitely not from a chain shop. ---
