I must strongly disagree. FLYING is a nightmare, between the security goons, the airport, the flight delays, and the extremely uncomfortable plane seats; I'd rather drive 20 hours straight than take a single flight in a plane. The west is beautiful, and most of the drive will be straight, flat, virtually traffic-free roads; a few people are right that this will be monotonous after 19 hours, but it also means it's one of the easiest drives you'll ever do.
houston ruice; you’ve gotten some very good advice on this forum before. I don’t worry about the car; I’ve driven acrosss the continent 9 times, twice in a 10 year old Buick with 170,000 miles on it, and pulling a camper.
What we do worry about is the fact that your mother is defintely not up to this. Even if she survives this enormous trip, it may drive you crazy. Your mother is definetely not a good passenger for such a long trip. It will be very stressful for you.
The trips across the country I have made were mostly with our family of 4 and my wife and I alternated the driving. Two times I have driven by myself, I had lots of music, snacks, good maps, and stayed in comfortable motels.
Please don’t do it! Fly out there and rent a compact car, it will have air, cruise etc.
You wrote “As many of you know, I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt in good condition.”
Dude.
Get a clue.
NO ONE knows what kind of car you have. You are not qualified for this mission. Buy a plane ticket and rent a car.
