I bought a car - and I am so happy with it!

Hello everyone. First, before I get started with what will be a very long post, I have been so busy, things are just now slowing down for me. I did notice a special and meaningful award I received in this forum, New User of the Month for December. I am not sure if you members vote for that or what, if so, thank you very much. Another big thank you, the information you have given me in my questions. I’ve follow-ups in my email thinking I would log back in, distractions and an insanely busy Holiday work-load that has now somewhat normalized to give me more free time. I will admit, I probably won’t be a regular, but I want to participate more often than I did during this time away.

So, yes I did get a car. I thank all of you for the input of the matter. Between your input, input of family members, friends and a lot of online research and test drives I finally bought a car. The Mustang GT and its raw power, the angry sounding engine that makes the car seem like it is just in a really bad mood, being American made, oh and it is so loud and I loved it. The car was just nearly irresistible. I like the way it handled, I had noticeably better vision and fewer blind spots than I did with a Camaro, and I felt its quality was just plain better than the Dodge muscle cars. So, was this the car I got? Well it was a very difficult decision, but for the price range I was looking at – I had to get a used Mustang GT, and I had concerns about how it might have been broken in, and the normal concerns of buying a used car. Is a future Mustang or Shelby still in the picture for a future car? Yes, but if so, it will be brand new and I am already saving for the big brand-new super car.

So, what did I get? There he is below:

Happy little guy isn’t he? Big smile on his face. Just a note, life is short, we have good times and bad times, and so humanizing my cars is a fun thing to do, trust me it is fun. I bought a brand new 2024 Subaru BRZ limited, only 5 miles on it. Here is why I made that decision:

I already own a Subaru Legacy 3.6 liter, and it has been just an amazingly reliable car, it also handles magnificently. My experience with my Legacy was carried a lot of weight in this decision. If my BRZ is as reliable, it will be like the Legacy, here to stay with us. Other cars may come and go, but the Subarus will stay.
As tempting as a Mustang was, when I read where BRZs are 11 spots higher in reliability than a Mustang and it’s a very reliable sports car - those were big selling points as well. The fact that I am it’s only owner, I will KNOW how it is broken in, and that it will not see over 4000 rpm for its first 1,000 miles, will change the oil at 250 miles to clear out any metal residue do that again at 1000 miles.

Also, I got a great deal on the car, I knew the dealership wanted to clear out the 2024s, and with a determination to get a good deal, and the dealership not being used to people who did a lot of research and have quick answers and counters to how they were trained to deal with people like me, I was able to work a deal of getting the car for $1,700 below invoice, yeah, below invoice.

When I test drove this car, well not this one but another new 2024, the handling was just beyond amazing. The other cars I tested felt clumsy compared to the BRZ. I was not surprised, because I read in Edmunds review something that surprised me before I even test drove the BRZ – Edmunds stated that the next closest car in handling capability to the BRZ would be a far more expensive Porsche GT3-RS. Wow, what a compliment. As I drove away in my BRZ even though I read that, even though I felt it in the test drive, I was still just amazed at its handling. Wow!!!

Oh, the other reason I bought the BRZ, it is just a flat out good, sharp looking classy sports car.

Well, I am about to wrap this one up. I am going to put a separate post for my BRZs first day out and introduction to this world, yeah, it was quite a first day for it for sure.

So, I am so, so happy with this car. Yes, I am saving up for the possibility of a brand new future Toyota Supra, Corvette C8, Porsche, or a Shelby (if Ford does bring it back). But then again, this BRZ might be my only sports car. I am a little used to this kind of car from renting GR-86s and FR-S’s on the track. Funny how things work out.

Congratulations for your new car, a good choice. Keep it for ten or more years so that you can save money for other things on your list. All the dream cars you list are over $60,000 and are likely to be EVs by the time you save up for them. That’s a plus for me, but maybe not for you.

There is nothing special about those awards . They are part of the site programing and have no value at all. It is like the ’ Everyone gets a Trophy idea '.
