2000 Hyundai Elantra, 103,000 miles, no heat when knob is turned to on position, fan not running, no noise. Suggestion was made to check fuses, checked fuse box under hood, the fuse for the box is a big yellow square, not sure how to remove it, does anyone have suggestions on this or leave it for the pros?

Consult the owner’s manual for the location of the blower fuse. It may be inside the car, as opposed to under the hood. Does the fan work on ANY of the speeds, or not at all?

When you turned the fan on earlier, did you find that in order to get it to work, you had to turn the switch to a higher and higher speed setting?

If this is the case, you may need a resistor block. (it’s bolted to the blower housing)

Alternative? The blower motor may be burned out.

You could run power directly to the blower motor contacts to check the blower motor or use a continuity tester and follow the wiring from the fuse panel to the blower motor via the switch.

Let us know how it turns out.

Sounds like a blown fuse, or circuit breaker, to me. You will have to consult your owner’s manual and/or fuse diagrams on the inside of fuse box covers to find the correct fuse/circuit breaker.

Even if the fuse looks OK, replace it. Fuses are cheap. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to start testing circuits, etc. That’s when the fun starts.

When was the last time you knew it worked?
