How to deal with someone entering road from gas station and blocking traffic?

@GeargeSanJose
Speaking of getting the police involved; I was waiting to pull out into traffic from a muni. parking with a city cruiser waiting behind me one day. A lady driver on the main road put her blinker on to pull into the lot, slowed down and began making her turn. There was then space for me to proceed. I started to pull out. Just then, she changed her mind, gun it, almost rammed me if I didn’t hit the brakes as she swerved back onto the road and continued on the roadway. The cop behind me put on his blues and stopped me from proceeding. He got out and came over to me at which time I asked him,“did you see what the other car did?” he replied, " yes, but you’re the only one I could stop in traffic". “Have a nice day.” Since that incident, I don’t believe the intent of anyone till they are well out of the way or completely stopped.

In other words, police can monitor situations like this, but in heavy traffic, there may be little they can do. They often avoid trying to as they do nothing more then create a worse situation when the blue lights go on. It’s tough, but installing cameras may be the best answer.

@dagosa

Why did the cop even bother talking to you?

He said he saw the whole thing unfold and knows you’re not to blame.

Perhaps he wanted to feel important by telling you that he’s letting this “incident” slide . . .

My feeling? It didn’t inconvenience too many drivers waiting behind us to get out and, it looked like he was doing something…little he could do otherwise. I don’t really know how much of what actually happened he really saw regardless of what he said. Of course, having an ID as a working cop myself from the adjacent community didn’t hurt…

I would find an alternate route to work. Why force yourself to deal with stuff like this? Life’s too short.

My understanding is he’s in LA. ALL the roads seem to be like this! We were there a few weeks ago, what a mess. One thing - very few left turn lanes, so it seems to be OK to have one car turn left after the light turns red. No honking, kind of ‘I do it, so it’s OK if they do it’ reaction…

I was thinking he’s in San Jose, from the name. In which case, my turf. If it’s LA, my former turf, he’s golden as LA has multiple routes you can take to get anywhere. But, if it’s the Bay Area, yeah, he’s kinda screwed. He will have to become more Zen.
