Can you guys give “us” a hand?

A friend of mine has a '93 Honda Accord that has over 200,000 mi on it. It’s a 4cyl auto. What he has happening is that when the car is hot, it won’t start. After driving a while, stopping (shutting off) somewhere and getting back in it won’t start. (CAN A FUEL INJECTED CAR VAPOR LOCK? I’m just curious!)

 HERE’S WHERE I STUMPED.

Even if he hadn’t driven it at all and gets in on a day that is hotter than 95, she won’t start. OH, WHAT I’M FORGETTING IS THAT AFTER A WHILE OF CRANKING SHE’LL START OR IF HE GIVES IT ABOUT 10 MINUTES, SHE STARTS.

If he parks in the shade on same sunny HOT day, she’ll start right off. She’ll also fire off all winter long.

Can you help me help him? He’s going to get rid of it, but he can’t bring himself to sell the car knowing that it does that.

If you need more info, please let me know.

Thank you for any and all inputs.

Well known problem with Honda’s is a bad main relay affected by heat.

> If your Honda Accord, Civic, Prelude, CRX, or another model won't start when the engine is hot, you might have a faulty main relay.

Andrew is correct. This is a classic symptom of this well-known Honda problem.
Luckily, it is a very easy fix.

I agree with the others. The main fuel pump relay is likely to be the source of the starting difficulties. This is a common problem in older Hondas. The relay is under the dashboard, and should be fairly simple to replace.
