BUG…Many times what people consider BUG’s are actually Features…And many times when bugs are reported…we engineers jokingly say…NO…It’s a “Feature”.

I have trouble understanding a lot of vanity plates. I therefore throw all caution to the moment of my mortifying confession: I understood the one Piter posted. More to the point, it’s just the sort of plate I’d expect him to contribute. Piter, it seems you’ll never get off probation. Try to be more like CSA, who brought ML8ML8.

Lion9Car, long, long ago, NY plates were the same colors, or the orange may have been a little more yellow. We’ve always had ugly plates as far as I know. We love the Statue, but the plates were wimpy. She looked more like a blue and red cobweb than herself. The ones with the Falls and the WTC were also bland, though I’d like them still to be in use. Discontinuing the design seems a denial.

The only plates I recall were interesting only to their owners, I’d think, e.g., SHOOZE. I’ll probably start watching more closely now.

I’d like vanity plates but would have too hard a time deciding on what to order. Maybe that’s why I’m selling the won-Denali and sticking with yellow cabs and the M15. Not to mention that it’s a scary creature and I can’t afford to keep it, anyway.

You missed the one that the admin edited out. Apparently someone took it the wrong way. Like CSA’s, it was an Alice in Wonderland reference but one that only works in the rear view mirror. Are there front view mirrors?

I cannot even guess what the plate might have been, which must speak well of me. Wish I had something to say about your mirror question. It’s one of those ironic observations.

_The one that I’d love to have for my car is too long by 1 letter. They give us 9 spaces to fill out for the plates, but only 7 characters are allowed.
The closest I could come would be z00000m instead of z00mz00m_

Blue Plymouth Horizon. Didn’t see it myself, but I’m told the plates read BEYOND.

I did, however, once see a Volkswagen Beetle with the license number PAZLEE. Anyone care to guess what kind of paint job it had?

While there may not be forward looking mirrors, there are side view mirrors, at least. Check out most trucks and busses you see. It’s so they know you’re next to their tire before they try to change lanes on you, or how close they are to the curb when stopping, etc. Having said that, there are also mirrors on the front, looking in front of the vehicles so they also know if there’s something/someone there before pulling away. I think the argument could be made that those are indeed, forward looking mirrors.

I’ve never had a vanity plate myself, but I did once have a custom frame made that read “my other car is nose down in a canal”. Sadly, Arizona later came up with a law that made it illegal because it covered part of the name of the state.

I have a few favorites that I’ve seen. Some are real head scratchers too!
On a BMW 5 series…PLAN B
On a mid 80’s Porsche 911 WEXLR8

and my all time favorite…( think rear view mirror) TI3VOM.

My first car was a 1978 vw bug convertible, I came up with DAS BUG 9…the number isn’t important it just made it “personalized” instead of “vanity” (which cost a lot more, of course)

Haven’t had one since that though. But I do agree that it is fun to guess at others plates.

Fifteen to 20 years ago, “FNADER” on a classic Chevrolet Corvair. Appropriate, since the slogan on the plate is the state motto, “Live Free or Die.”

As a neighbor to those residents of NH, please tell me if there is something the rest of us don’t know about your state motto. Do you have a handle on immortality if you’re willing to submit to socialism ? If you do, it would be an interesting discussion.
Or, should it be " live free or die sooner" ?

The Die part is only part of the controversy.

Many people believe the “Live Free” means - Free as is they don’t charge anything…Thus the low taxes…as opposed to the real meaning when first quoted by General John Stark.

When I first went overseas, and took my car with me, I got to drive around with US plates on for ~ a year. I can’t tell you how many comments those NH plates generated. To a one, they were good…also had a sticker “Married…and love it”. That generated a heck of a lot, too.
