In the current Broadway production, there is Chevelle/Malibu on the stage.

But–_s_trangely–the ads and the _Playbill_ for the show have a '66 Ford Galaxie 500XL as the car in question.

Back in the late '80s I saw ads in London for a brand of c o n d o m with the name "_Billy"_. The ads stated… _Put a Billy on your W i l l y._

I remember being 8-10 years old when the neighbor, who seemed to need a different Chrysler every year or two, decided to buy a project car and came home with a '53 Commander. I would sit out front and wait for him to get home to “help” him putter around on that car. I always thought that was a beautiful car.

According to Google: Ironically, while the Studebaker symbolized failure for ■■■■■ Loman, it meant the exact opposite for Arthur Miller. Following the massive Broadway success and financial windfall of _Death of a Salesman_, Miller treated himself to a brand-new [Studebaker convertible](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&rct=j&url=https://homework.study.com/explanation/what-kind-of-car-does-willy-loman-drive-in-death-of-a-salesman.html&ved=2ahUKEwiK9MLq5baWAxVdm2oFHb1sKDwQy_kOeggIAggBCB0QAQ&opi=89978449&cd&psig=AOvVaw29mT2l0SBCYfzHtYd93Jnv&ust=1787576044755000), which he famously described as “the most beautiful American car at the time”. My guess, he would have bought the Commander. Though I had a 49 Champion, in 1949 the ‘all new’ designs from the big three were released.

For those of you that watched MASH TV series, Hawkeye would lament reading of a doctor he knew that was not drafted buying a new Studebaker.

I’ve heard it quite a bit over my lifetime here in the south, used in the British culture way you speak of…

But agreed, the algorithm is on the safer side…

Didn’t Chevrolet make/market certain cars specifically towards traveling salesmen, or am I thinking of a different make?

I have. Back in the 90’s we had fun talking about that movie about a killer whale and that the title could have a double meaning:

Good thing Arthur Miller’s play wasn’t about a guy named ■■■■■ “Johnson” or we would never be able to talk about him here!

I believe you’re thinking of Ford?

You are thinking of business coupe, backseat eliminated in favor of more trunk space. Made by multiple manufacturers. Pretty much gone by the early 50s.

+1

That body style wasn’t limited to just one manufacturer.

Agreed. This censoring is verging on the ridiculous.

Yup, that’s what I’m thinking of. I remember seeing an ad touting all the trunk space for a traveling salesman to carry his samples or what not. Fun looking cars too.
