I have a Scion xA hatchback that I love. I bought it new in '06, and routinely achieve 41 mpg by staying under 60 mph (it’s rated at 38). It was 15K new, so you can do the math…pretty affordable. Not only do you get to keep your street cred, but attain a certain degree of hipsterness too. Good luck.
