Hail to the Chief!

If S&W is not advertising in Vanity Fair, perhaps they should be. The rate at which women are buying guns now is phenominal.

I was watching a PBS show recently and they’ve even selling pink tasers now!

Now, after the great tragedy in Boston, I’m sure there’ll be the usual screams to eliminate guns. I’m also sure gun sales will jump dramatically.

My prayers to those victimized. I do believe that the events in Boston have shown that we the citizenry are now unified against terrorism like never before. And Boston has brought us together in this to an even stronger degree.Never before has an entire city shut down to catch a terrorist. I’m certain for most this will truely be a “call to arms”.

I don’t look at tasers, but I don’t doubt they sell them in pink or purple.

Beware Esarhaddon! take a gander at some of the conspiracy stuff circulating on the net now-concerning the marathon bombing(not endorsed by me of course,but I think you can kiss the remaining fireworks stands goodbye)-Kevin {bear with me,I have windows 8 now}

Yep, I’d guess in New York anyway there won’t be anything that burns allowed. Next they’ll come after potato guns and hair spray but you’ll have to go out of state to get the lighter.

Just gotta figure there are tons of ways to kill people for those that are determined, so maybe we should be looking for the people trying to kill people instead of 2000 different means available.

It is still about the technology and access to it… There will always be those out to do others harm for what ever contrived reason they had and what ever religion they used to reinforce their ideas. But, access to advanced weapons, explosives and knowledge means more killing power. It’s really that simple. It’s like depriving a drunk from drinking liquor, a madman from having an atomic bomb and lunatics from assault weapons. We practice technology deprivation ALL OF TIME. The more advanced the technology, the more we need to practice limiting it’s access to those who would use it wrongfully.

I watched the last half hour of a documentary on the M-16 last night and it amazed me that a seemingly sane man would state unequivocally that he would go to the hills to lead a revolution if law enforcement attempted to enforce an assault weapon (AR-15) ban. And amazingly, the network news team thought his opinion mattered.

Bing, that was well said.

Perhaps then the TSA will allow kids flying home from Disneyland to bring their Mickey Mouse Snow Globes on the planes. They currently confiscate them because the fluid in the bowl exceeds the maximum allowable limit. I’m not exaggerating. I’m restating a statement directly from the head of the TSA.

@Rod
Your example shows what idiots people can become when things don’t go their extreme way. This isn’t Uganda where a few mercenarys can hold a govt. at bay for a short time. A few extremist have little chance against a determined police force. That alone makes the argument for having assault weapons for protection against the govt. ridiculous. You need weapons to protect your self from criminals who DONOT travel in hordes, to hunt for food and protect your self from the occasional rabid raccoon. A shotgun, a deer rifle and a revolver will do fine.

My example shows how rediculous things can become when you focus on the hardware rather than on the people trying to kill people. My example also shows how out of control regulatory agencies can…and do…become, again when they focus on the means rather than the people. My example shows why we should NOT be spending out time and resources focusing on the guns, but rather on the people that would do us harm.

There was more damage done last week in Boston with pressure cookers, ball bearings, nails, and some gunpowder from fireworks than imaginable. Should we ban pressure cookers?

Assault weapons are to the NRA crowd as baggy pants hanging below the butt crack are to adolescent blacks.

Perhaps, although Kid Rock (who I happen to enjoy) demonstrates that the low riding baggy pants are more an urban thing than a race thing. However, more control laws on the books won’t change enything one iota.

I’m surprised we don’t have a “czar” of gun control yet.

The people we should be focusing on are the immoral for profit at all costs gun makers. Gun makers who “loose” thousands of guns a year that never go through FFL dealers while supplying guns directly to criminals. Saying we should focus on people then allowing them to buy any weapon they want to what end ? Arrest them after they kill…I don’t get that. Does someone have a magic “intent indicator” that we can run everyone through…cause without a crime, you never know. Do you stereotype everyone who could possibly do harm? I had this reasonable idea that everyone should go through a background check before buying a gun…EVERYONE. Isn’t that focusing on people ?

@same. The same mistruths keep getting repeated…that we already have laws on the books. There are precious few federal laws and they are weak. Over and over and over…these mistruths to obscure the facts keep getting repeated…the only effective law is the machine gun law which requires a license. Nothing else is effective in preventing anyone one from buying any other type of firearm.

And about that M-16 program last night. The 3-D printer point man was interviewed and he certainly has been able to reproduce the 30 round magazine housing and the lower receiver from some plastic material in the printer and incorporated those components into a workable weapon. But he tip-toes around the details of a barrel, the upper receiver, the many components of the bolt and trigger mechanism and several other necessary pieces. The devil, as always, is in the details.

The 3D printer fear is WAY overblown. No high-strength materials can come out of them. Certainly not anything exposed to the wear and pressure of a gun’s action.

Future? who knows.

The details that were conspicuously overlooked in the interview made it very clear that the 3-D firearm idea was as outrageous as I had thought.

The three D printer may not in a use in the firearm as we know it today. But at some point, self propelled projectiles like mini rockets may be in use allowing them to change course and be programmable for designated targets. When that happens, plastic could very well be the material of choice as a launcher. Of course, the NRA would be perfectly fine with those in the hands of anyone…

The past limitations have been the amount of powder that can be packed in the back of a bullet. Eventually…that limitation will change.

I'm surprised we don't have a "czar" of gun control yet.

Maybe if their gun control bill passed, they would have appointed a czar.

Actually, it does sound like New York has a magic intent indicator. I believe I heard today that they have a 136 point profiler that is very accurate in predicting who is a likely mass killer. They evidently took a lot heat on it from the anti-profilers, but to their credit, they said no way, we’re keeping it because it works. They think they would have prevented the Boston bombing. Let’s use it and expand it then if it doesn’t work, we can talk about it.

And actually, I think the NRA crowd probably pays a heck of a lot more in taxes than the baggy pants crowd but I could be wrong. Not saying we shouldn’t listen to people that don’t pay a dime in taxes but we should listen to the stockholders.

@Bing
The NRA crowd ? One of the few times, but I believe you are in this case. Maybe not as a percent but in actual amounts.
From what I read, the dead bomber was listed on the watch list, along with nearly 750,000 other names…and with no indicated threats at the marathon, do we put tail on everyone of them? Great view with hindsight. It’s one thing to have a list of names. It’s another thing to commit to actually do something about it with the resources you have. Heck, Bush was told the Al Qaeda was a threat to attack using commercial airlines…what did he do ?

Just saying that the police chief gave the guy a perfect score of 136 out of 136 and anyone scoring that high would have been closely watched. Just being on a watch list of 750,000 doesn’t mean they all have perfect profiles of 136. The police chief anyway thought their profile system would have flushed him out but what do I know? Of course they never made it to New York to test it.
