Hail to the Chief!

You guys are off the radar, if it was a big boom it will happen again, and when and if it does there are no carryovers.

Everytime my apostasy , rational thinking and disbelief,kick in-I behold how marvelous the interconnectivness,the amazing complexity,my respect and love for God rekindles,Dont know how He got here,but finally we are learning to read his blueprints and please lets use it to help a brother or sister in need(we are Mortal Folks,time to get over it)-Kevin

If you look at The Universe as a whole, God must be a VERY violent and unforgiving force…Peace and love? nay, this is a do or die, dog eat dog universe we live in…

@Caddyman,look on it as Dynamic,I dont think it would be much of a universe if it was all Angel Harps and Gardenia blossoms.
There are two schools of thought as too why we are here and things are as they are.
1.A couple of random molecules got together and started eating and reproducing and conditions happened to shape the pinnacle of evolution(man) gasp, the humanity!
2.Or there was a wise omnipitent creator.When I consider the strange properties of the water molecule and the behavoiur of hydrocarbon molecules at life temperatures,random chance seems unlikely, IMO-Kevin

How about destiny.

While I subscribe to number 2, the question then is where did the creator come from? Kinda gives ya a headache thinking about it so I just deal with the immediate.

@Bing,where did matter originate to start with?,how something from nothing"I think,therefore I am" but I just put it to my incomplete understanding(dont want to get caught in that loop)-Kevin

Yeah but where did “nothing” come from, and what is it contained in, and . . . and . . .? Oh forget it. We’ll find out someday.

Ah…from politics to religion. The usual road traveled. But the old bugger, reincarnation, ( if you believe) may keep you from ever finding out.

@Dagosa,while our energy goes on,I doubt if our essence is recycled(not to say that some of our elite rich" betters" think they are going to live forever"-Kevin

@kevin
I have mentioned this before and you may be aware that by 2030 something, “singularity” is due to occur with the idea that some people alive today will never die (barring accidents, meteroites and murder). Of course, they will be Romney types but eventually, perhaps everyone when the price drops. We all can “buy” extra time with enough money…look at OJ…

@Dagosa,I remember you mentioning it,could you explain it to me a bit?(I hope its not like Skynet)-Kevin

http://singularity.com/
It sounds a little far fetched until you look at the history of artificial intelligence and those who support the idea…like Bill Gates…the late Steve Jobs and others. The history of the exponential growth and development of artificial intelligence is unrefutable and at some time, it’s further development will be given over to…artificial intelligence. This group was formed to prepare for this eventuality. When the intelligence of the human mind and all of it’s function in artificial form becomes a vehicle to maintain awareness for those who choose it, they become immortal.

Singularity holds the promise of aliviating a lot of man’s suffering, but at what cost ? These are the questions that those who are involved hope to deal with before what they feel, is it’s eventuality. Personally, I feel you and I may never know the out comes as it will become a provision of the wealthy, like most advances are.

It’s worth following regardless. I feel there are elements worthy of our interest. And, according to many, it isn’t that far away. It is going on all around us from pace makers to work on artificial limbs whose movement is controlled by the human mind,…directly. Eventually, it is presumed , the human mind will meld with artificial intelligence. Who ever thought you could talk to a computer for example…now we take it for granted every time we call the bank or amazon and complain or make an order…Eventually, that computer will be "smarter " them the sum of all intelligence that has existed since man kind has been on earth…by about 2030.

therefore commit his/her body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, now tell me about this singularity. Given the history there is not one who has lived that will not die.

@Barkydog, it used to be accepted that when you had an entire history of ailments, you would probably die. One ailment is old age whose mysteries we are slowly coming to grips with. Not having answers is a fertile ground for accepting the finality of not only death, but death unnecessarily. It’s not whether we die or not, it’s when. Remember, you become immortal to the person you stand over who passes away.

Looks like Dick Chaney just might be the last man standing.

Sure cheney has the gravy train health plan, unlike the decimation of any safety net as we know it, but @dagosa what are you really trying to say.

Nothing we don’t already know…the privileged have the only chance at " immortality". We die early and often so they can live…longer…and better.

@Dagosa,Whew! heady stuff indeed,I’m a bit curious however, have you been following the developement of the " diamond" chip? sorry I dont have any links,that would be a real enchiliada,if organic “carbon” life was supplanted by electronic"carbon" based life.Old SF fans I recommend reading “Demon Seed” and “The Forbin project” hey Dag, you are right much of nanotechnology and maybe even the diamond chip,may have already been scarfed by the “Elite”( alot of this seems to have started after WW2-I wonder)-Kevin

@kevin
Such things are certainly not unrelated technology to singularity. I will look it up.

Not that heady and far fetch if you look at it this way.

Right now, there is experimentation with receptors placed in the retina of previously blind persons with a direct link to the brain allowing them to see images for the first time. We have been “dabbling” if you will connecting our mind to artificial intelligence already. The same happening with motorized artificial limbs that move with mind contol. The limbs contain artificial intelligence that we are communicating with through electrodes.

This experimentation does not seem far fetched when I say it at this level and twenty years from now neither will full mind connectivity between the human mind and artificial intelligence. It’s not like we wake up and suddenly a real person who has passed away will still be communicating to us through a computer. It will happen in acceptable stages like now…we accept that cars can park themselves and can easily invasion driverless cars with enough artficial intel. to drive themselves which tthirty years ago, might have been dissed by conservative thinking and thinkers.

Nano technology miniaturized and made possible things we never even thought of before as far as A. I. is concerned. Technology is growing exponentially. Look at the capabilities of the new smart phones…look at the new Galaxcy phones from Samsung. Look how rapidly they have evolved from the lowly common cell phone. Dick Tracy 's watch was at one time a dream is now old technology. The human mind and connectivity to all this artificial intelligence is closer then you think and it happens in acceptable stages.

Creating a singularity is one thing…creating a vessel to support one is completely different.
