How do I prevent the gas gauge needle from reversing when I re-connect the battery after the car is garaged for 7 months. It became stuck below the stopper under the Empty mark and would not go back to normal even when I tried dis-connecting and re-connecting again. A mechanic removed the dash board panel and repositioned it for $55.

You can try pulling the fuse before battery reconnection. Replace the fuse after you have connected the battery, started the engine and shut it down again. No guarantees, but I think this is your best shot.

You could learn to remove the instrument cluster your self, and reposition it. Its really not that hard
