Gas cap release on Subaru Forester — a problem?

so far–the mythical gasoline police haven’t jumped out from behind a bush in order to put handcuffs on me.

I’m not sure about NJ,
In Oregon, the station is the one that gets a $500.00 if caught, the Fire Marshall is the one who enforces the law and is the one that has to see it happening.

Also parts of Oregon now allow self service from 6pm to 6am in the counties with less than 40,000 people

It seems that some kind of tool would allow the driver to just slip some sort of loop onto that lever and just pull up while remained seated in the vehicle.

Maybe just tying a piece of string to the lever would work. Velcro the other end of the string to someplace you can reach and won’t get the way.
