What do you mean by “granny” mode? Usually the word granny is used to describe extremely low gearing for towing or low-traction situations (boat ramp, snow drift, etc). This would cause WORSE mileage, not better.
Sounds like you cut off your nose to spite your face. Not really something to brag about. Classic buyer’s remorse.
