Have a 99 suburban, failed inspection because of two pipe connection exhaust leaks. Is this a possible replacement of the entire muffler, what should I look for or ask when I take it to the muffler shop?

An inspection of the exhaust system is the only way to determine where the leaks are.

Find a good local mechanic who also does exhaust. I’ve found them to be far cheaper and they don’t just replace EVERYTHING because ohttp://community.cartalk.com/posts/list/2133871.page#ne part is bad. The chain Muffler shops approach is…if one part is bad…then replace EVERYTHING (usually from the cats back).

The answer to your question depends on the overall shape of the exhaust system. If it is in overall good shape, these leaks can be welded. If, on the other hand, there is rust spreading, you might be better off having the exhaust system replaced as far up the line as the rust goes.
