Driving home from northern California yesterday, my '96 landcruiser began “missing” when I went uphill or accelerated. It seemed to run smoothly when I was up to speed at 70 mph on the flat, but it sounds like it’s going to “die” when idling at a stop sign. Any ideas?

Yup. Have the fault codes read at the local auto parts store and post them here.
