Thanks for the extra battery suggestion. 
I’ve been using the same 18v Ryobi batteries for at least 3 years. They’re lasting much longer than the Ni-Cad batteries in my old Craftsman drill.

Oh, and I found a place that takes electronics and lawn equipment at no cost for most items, disassembles and recycles the metals and plastics and such. So for only about thirty minutes of my time and a small amount of gas on a scenic round trip the unrepairable old trimmer stays out of the landfill and gets thoroughly recycled.

No need for having extra batteries just setting around . The one for our EGO mower is four years old and the two for our trimmer / blower is 5 years old and they both are still good.
