E85 v/s gasoline

People always complain about the milage of ethanol but cars optimized for ethanol get the same mileage or better. There are Japanese cars being made to run on both gas or ethanol and get the same mileage. The current problem is the horrible way that the flex fuel vehicles are designed.

If you want to make other complaints about ethanol go ahead but don’t complain about mileage unless you are making those complaints to the car manufactures.

Read below information:

“Using 100% ethanol fuel decreases fuel-economy by 15-30% over using 100% gasoline; this can be avoided using certain modifications that would, however, render the engine inoperable on regular petrol without the addition of an adjustable ECU.[125] Tough materials are needed to accommodate a higher compression ratio to make an ethanol engine as efficient as it would be on petrol; these would be similar to those used in diesel engines which typically run at a CR of 20:1,[126] versus about 8-12:1 for petrol engines.[127]”

I agree that you could get better mileage from E85 is you designed a high compression engine specifically to take advantage of the higher octane, however those cars do not seem to exist in the US market at the moment. What does exist are “flex fuel” vehicles that can use E85 with worse mileage than gasoline. From what I have seen, E85 only seems to be available in parts of the country where it is produced. It may eventually have some promise, but at the moment it is nothing more than farm welfare.

Also, from what I’ve seen, only the domestic manufacturers are currently offering those vehicles, and we all know how bright their future looks. I expect that this little “experiment” will go away in a few years and the government will end up bailing out more farmers; good plan.

The waste of human life from the current adventure in Iraq is unconscionable. The levels of waste and graft unearthed by the BBC may actually be indictable!

It appears that the folks opposed to the current administration have made a tactical decision not to interfere with them while they are in the process of self-destructing. If is really unfortunate that political considerations have prevented any meaningful opposition to this fiasco. I assume that will change after the election, regardless of the outcome. Whoever inherits this mess will have very little choice but to bail out, leaving things worse than they were prior to the invasion, thanks george. I can’t wait to hear the phrase “peace with honor,” them the fiasco will be complete.

Now that’s funny. I once heard and audio clip of about 50 of those stupid statements in row, I was laughing so hard I could barely breath.

Does anyone know how I can get a fake canadian passport so I can travel with less embarrassment?

The Isreali spy agency, the Mossad, have frequently used fake Canadian passports. James Earl Ray, who assasinated Martin Luther King Jr. was traveling on a fake Canadian passport.

Well, maybe that’s not such a good plan. (-;

Changes in design can decrease the ethanol penalty, but I doubt if it can eliminate it as ethanol has less potential energy than gasoline to start with.

nevermind

Now let’s see a partial list of Bush’s blunders:

-the federal response to Katrina
Only a liberal Democrat would sit on their thumbs and wait on the Federal Government to rescue them in such a situation. The fact is, the Federal Government has done very little in Alabama and Mississippi and most of their stuff was back up and running in a few months. You didn’t see them on TV demanding the government fix it. It’s beyond me why with all the people in New Orleans they expect people to come from Kentucky to rebuild their city and houses while they move to shelters in Kentucky. They ought to have been at their house working to take care of their own stuff. No sympathy for those that won’t help themselves, None.

-ignoring the many warnings before 9/11/2001
You all want to bitch about what he did about 9-11. Imagine what kind of bitching you’d be doing if he’d done something about it then.

-sitting in the classroom with a dumb look on his face on 9/11/2001
I think I had the same look on my face when it came over the radio while I was sitting at the drive in at the bank. What reaction is one supposed to have when they initially find out someone has attacked their country and killed thousands of innocent people? I’d immagine when news of the Pearl Harbor attack began coming over the radio people had that same dumb look.

-starting a war that his father knew was a bad idea
Who started this war? W? or a pin headed dictator who refused to abide by the terms of his surrender in the first Gulf war. I would have had a lot less respect for him if he accepted the slap in the face being given by Sadam who wouldn’t abide by the terms of his agreement.

-lying about pre-war intelligence
Who other that the liberal media, Hillary and Obama says he was lying about the intelligence? It’s a funny thing to me that the UN had been in the country since the first war inspecting these facilities. I suppose they just built the facilities to look at and never constructed the weapons Sadman said he had in his posession.

-hiring unqualified personnel to manage projects in Iraq, including reconstruction
Speaking of unqualified, what’s Obama’s qualifications for anything?

-disbanding the Iraqi army
I suppose the alternative was to kill them all, would have suited me.

-not catching Bin Laden after 7 years!!!
It’s not like we have jurisdiction in the 7 countries the guy is running around in. It’s not like you can go around the corner and find him propped up against a phone booth and arrest him.

Skipper

We should really leave Skippy alone, I know troll baiting is fun but his head is going to explode if we don’t stop.

Okay…

I believe George W Bush is one of the better Presidents we have had in this country.

You’ve said some good ones skipper…but that beats them all.

He is by FAR the worst President I’ve ever had the disprivilege to have as my president…

I believe that he has faced more problems than any President in history and has done one heck of a job.

He CAUSED a lot of those problems himself. He’s the kind of leader that if he was a squad leader in Nam, he would have been fraged by his own men. And he is by far the DUMBEST president we’ve EVER HAD.

Now that’s funny. I once heard and audio clip of about 50 of those stupid statements in row, I was laughing so hard I could barely breath.

Here it is…I posted it earlier in this thread.

http://pol…oopers.htm

Some village in Texas is missing it’s idiot. If after seeing this someone still thinks George W is still a GREAT president…HEAVEN HELP THEM.

Did you actually THINK before you wrote those???

I think I had the same look on my face when it came over the radio while I was sitting at the drive in at the bank. What reaction is one supposed to have when they initially find out someone has attacked their country and killed thousands of innocent people?

How about get off his dumb ass and find out what the hll is going on. You don’t just sit there and do NOTHING when the country is under attack.

Who other that the liberal media, Hillary and Obama says he was lying about the intelligence?

Pretty much everybody who has an IQ over 90 (Which is GWs IQ). It’s pretty much been PROVEN that he and Chaney LIED. The chain of evidence is pretty clear he knew that there was NO evidence what-so-ever of WMD’s and that some of the evidence was a blatant LIE.

Speaking of unqualified, what’s Obama’s qualifications for anything?

To start…and IQ at least 40 points higher then GWs. That’s good enough for me.

I suppose the alternative was to kill them all, would have suited me.

Good…GENOCIDE…The typical Conservative Morality.

It’s not like we have jurisdiction in the 7 countries the guy is running around in. It’s not like you can go around the corner and find him propped up against a phone booth and arrest him.

There is LESS then one division looking for Bin Laden. If GW took any lessons from Nam you know that’s no where near enough…Oh That’s right…He chickened out of going to Nam…And Chaney had something like 5 deferments. Yup GREAT leaders.

Agree that cars designed to run on 100% ethanol are efficient; Brazil has done just that and Volkswagens designed for ethanol perform very well. When you buy a car there you decide whether you want a gas car or an ethanol car.

However, nearly 40 % of cars in Brazil use ethanol and it’s widely available. The US E85 program does not make sense except as a farm subsidy vote getting tool. When US farm land is needed in the near future to grow food for export, farmers will quiclky shift, unless the subsidies are increased.

Skipper, I was also dumbfounded on the morning of September 11, 2001, but I was not the Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces. Believe me, if I had any official responsibility to defend this country, you would not see me sitting around while my country was under attack. That is undefendable and unforgivable.

Personally, I don’t know how FDR reacted to Pearl Harbor, but I don’t believe he sat around like an idiot.

Your excuses for not catching Bin Laden are pretty sad. If it was important to Bush, he would find a way to make it happen. That is what leaders do. Wherever Bin Laden is, I bet he is thankful that you voted for Bush.

Wherever Bin Laden is, I bet he is thankful that you voted for Bush.

While I make no effort to defend W, that’s just wrong.

When the attack occurred on Pearl Harbor is took several hours for the news to reach Washington. At that point, I’m sure he had more information that George Bush had on the towers. When the towers were hit, we heard/saw it live on radio and TV. At first it was thought the first plane was a tragic crash. It wasn’t until the second plane hit that we knew what was going on wasn’t a tragic plane crash, but something much worse.

I don’t know what you expected him to do. He was in Florida, the attack was in New York and Washington. Would you have felt better if he’d held an M16 up to the camera and went into some Osama like rant? Or would you expect him to assemble the information we had before making a decision?

It took months to mobilize our forces after Pearl Harbor. Getting the military ready and going isn’t something that happens in 5 minutes. And for what it’s worth, there were indicators that the Pearl Harbor attack was coming, and if heeded, we’d have been more prepared and likely had far less damage even inflicted some of our own shortening the war and greatly mitigating the results of Japanese invasions all across the Pacific.

Did we ever catch Hitler? No. We think we found his burned up body, but we aren’t 100% sure of that even. I can’t think of the murderer’s name, but we had tens of thousands of people chasing a murderer around in the Smokey Mountains and it took years to catch that individual with him on our own soil and very limited resources. When you are talking about a Bin Laden, you’re talking about someone with near the same level of resources as the US military who’s hiding out in multiple countries with people who are willing to protect him to their own death.

Skipper
