Do Your Own Maintenance - Car Last Longer?

I remember asking dealer abt soething in my 2013 Fit booklet. Dealer was amazed I had read the booklet (he certainly noticed all of my yellow referewnce stickies).

Dealer might also know that most of his employees have not read the book!

My favorite such story: I told a service writer at a Honda dealership that I had been using synthetic oil in my (almost new) Honda Civic. [Owners manual says that’s OK.] He said, ā€œHonda recommends against synthetic oil. It doesn’t have enough [he paused, searching his vocabulary]… grit.ā€

But maybe it has true grit…

The Acura dealer had a bbq for new owners. They went over all the stuff in the manual of interest, and everyone from the service manager got a chance to add their two cents worth. Good information and a free meal, that I suppose we prepaid as part of the overhead.

That seems like pretty good customer treatment. If my dealership did that then I’d be more inclined to buy a car there next time as well, it’s a win/win.
