In warmer weather, can I run used filtered vegetable oil in an older diesel vehicle without installing a kit?

You can, but it may not be a good idea.

Vegetable oil can cause problems with fuel lines and various other rubber parts, not to mention the injection pump, which is very expensive to replace.
