No air intake flap to close automatically at a preset RPM?

Hold fire distinguishers upright.
(Periodically I turn our ABC dry chemical firextinguishers upside down and shake them to keep the powder from caking.)

It will run till you cut the fuel off…

But that was probably a very highly modified Cummins kicking out over 1,000 HP and 2,000+ lb-ft of torque, capable of 6,000RPMs… Not your grand fathers Diesel… lol

**EDIT: It was a 3,000 HP engine that had already put down over 3,000HP on the dyno…**

Diesels have no throttle valve They can run suffer runaway and self destruct if you are not careful with modifications.

When things go wrong on an engine of that caliber, they go wrong in a bad way…

Thoughthat diesels ran away sucking engine oil into the cylinders.
Only way to save thengine is closing the air intake.

That blew the intake off (as well as a few other pieces lol) at that point it had a really big hole for air to enter in…

Check out the YT page, they show the aftermath of the engine, hint, most of it will now fit in a 5 gallon bucket…

A CO2 extinquisher would put the fire out and kill the engine quickly. They are worth every penny…

Bought a CO2 extinguisher at a garage sale. Stilhas a charge!

Unfortunately, without a flap closing the air intake, thengine wouldestruct before a firextinguisher could be obtained and used.

I don’t know what could have saved that but just a tip for putting a fire out. Aim the extinguisher at the base of the flame, don’t just aim it at th3 top. They don’t last long so every second counts. Not taught in school.
