lol … Chuckling b/c it seems this is more than a one-of problem, which is indeed puzzling. Reminds me of early 70’s when teenage-me got a part time night-job at a name-brand gas station to pump gas. The same customer would come in every night at 11 pm like clockwork, driving an old beat up sedan. She never purchased any gas, but always asked me to wash her windows, check the oil, and inflate the tires. All four tires, would measure 15 psi, every time. I had absolutely no training, but somehow I knew that 15 psi was too low, and 30 psi was about right. So I’d clean the windows, check the oil, and inflate the tires to 30 psi. Then I’d tell her the oil level was ok, but it was black and needed to be changed, and that the tires were bald and required replacement. She’d say “thank you”, and be back at 11 pm the next night … lol …
Human behavior can be puzzling, to say the least. When I worked as a gas jockey at a Citgo station, every morning a guy would dash in with his Mustang, and shout, “$2 regular, and make it fast. I’m late for work”. EVERY weekday morning!
I used to think to myself…
Hmmm… if he just left the house 5 minutes earlier once each week, he could actually fill his tank in one stop, and save himself a bit of time each week.
Yeah I never understood it either but when my dad drove 120 miles a day, he’d send mom and I out to get gas. $2 one day and $2.50 the next (back when it was 32.9). I didn’t mind because
We’d take the back road home and mom would let me drive. Guess I was 13. I would just fill up every day and still do when I get below 3/4 tank.
Hopefully your father didn’t subscribe to the same “theory” that my nutty old boss used to espouse. He would buy just a few bucks of gas–several times each week–for his big old Buick. When I asked him why he didn’t just fill his tank, his response was, “If you tell them to fill it, then they can cheat you”.
When I asked him to explain, he was unable to do so.
This is hilarious
I think your dad and I might think the same, except that I tend to fill right up before the tank reaches half because my mind says it’s more expensive to fill from empty.
Yes! As in, so what, the tires are over-inflated. Over-inflation is the American way!
That wasn’t my father. It was my nutty old boss.
Probably a Registered Tree-hugger and Greenie enabling you to get better gas mileage and produce less air pollution through less rolling resistance!
And tires stay cooler at high speeds due to less flexion!
