My car is starting to run very hot when it is already warm and running at idle speed-like when it is stopped at a light. I have run it while it was warm, and did not see the radiator fan come on. If I hit the fan motor with a wrench it starts. Is this indicative of a bad fan motor? Is it likely that the sensor will be bad in addition to the fan? ---

Yes, it sounds like a bad fan motor.
