# Clutch or Manual Tranny?

My 1999 Nissan Frontier, 4 cyl,5 speed, pickup: I can put it in any gear and the vehicle will only inch forward or reverse if I continually press the gas. I think it is a clutch problem as the transmission has seemed to work smoothly.

To determine if the clutch is the problem, put the transmission into fifth gear and then let the clutch out. If the engine stalls there’s nothing wrong with the clutch. If the engine doesn’t stall, then you’ve got a slipping clutch.

I think he is saying he just did that. So, Grandpa, you need a new clutch.
