The web comic xkcd, written by Randal Monroe, has a comic today that mentions Car Talk. Go to [http://xkcd.com/582/](http://xkcd.com/582/) to see it.  
  
  
  
 What do Calk and xkcd have in common? Both make comedy out of technical knowledge, and Tom, Ray, and Randall all live outside of Boston, MA.

You won’t ever hear that on the show. Contrary to how Tom and Ray portray the calls, they are pre-screened and selected based on staff evaluations of what is most entertaining. Callers are contacted if they make the cut.
