# Car stops accelerating during long drives

Hi Everyone, I drive a 2009 Nissan Sentra S with an inline 4 cylinder 2.0L engine, and an automatic transmission. My problem is that during long interstate drives my car will suddenly lose the ability to accelerate no matter how much gas I give it. Ill usually pull over to the side of the road and wait 10 minutes; afterwards it starts and works as normal. I have absolutly no idea why this would be the case.

When this occurs does the engine rpm increase but the car’s velocity doesn’t? Is the check engine light on?

Have someone check the accelerator pedal position sensor, and the circuit it controls.

I would have the accelerator all the way down but the car would be struggling to maintain rpms and velocity. However the rpms wouldn’t increase and my foot was already on the floor.
