I have a 95 Chevy Lumina that will randomly stall if it is idling or sometimes even in first gear. We replaced a vacuum hose and used some dry gas. My dad is thinking that it might have just been a bad tank of gas, so I am trying to use it up, without killing myself in the process. The car was doing this a few months back and it was something to do with needing a vent in the gas cap. That didn’t seem to help this time though. Does anyone have any other ideas as to what this could be?

How many miles on this car?

When you take the gas cap off is there a big flow of air from the pipe? into the pipe?

did you put on a new gas cap?

About 140,000 miles.
I haven’t noticed a big flow of air, but I’ll listen for it next time.
My brother had put a different, not new gas cap on the last time this happened. It helped then, but I’ve tried loosening it and driving with it and it still stalled.

A gas cap is an very easy fix and sometimes that is it, but there can be many other issues with the vent system.

How many miles on the car?

Did you replace the cap with the right one and did it help or change things?

I don’t remember if a 1995 Chevy would have a computer recording errors, but if it does that would be a good thing to get, the actual error code like P0123 not just “something to do with needing a vent in the gas cap.” Gas caps may be at fault, but not always.

Do you tend to top off the tank when you fill it up?
