Blue smoke, black smoke, white smoke? Black is excessive fuel. Blue is oil burning. White is antifreeze. Burning excess fuel if that is determined to be a fact is caused by poor maintenance such as worn plugs clogged air filter or sensors needing replacement such as oxygen sensor. A general diagnostic check and tune up would be in order. ---

How about letting us know what kind of car, how many miles, any bucking and jerking, any Check Engine Light on, and what color smoke you’re talking about? There’s a million answers. If you provide some info maybe that number can be whittled down to a manageable number.
