Actually beat-out Steve McQueen for a few movie roles featuring racing. Of course, Garner was, likely, much easier to deal with than McQueen ---

Only movie I remember both of them staring in was “The Great Escape”. Steve McQueen did his own Motor Cycle stunts. In fact he did the stunts for the character he was playing and the Nazi’s who were chasing him because no one could do it as well. ---
