Ford almost went into bankruptcy around 2008. They sold everything: office buildings, factories, equipment, and probably their heavy truck business to create a cash reserve to generate the liquidity they needed to stay in business. That was a lucky decision, and the primary reason why they didn’t have to take government loans during the mortgage crisis of 2008/2009.

Yes, I found out the Ford sold to Freightliner and Daimler Benz bougt Freightliner and changed the name to Sterling. They priced the Sterling in between Freightliner and Western Star but every trucker looking at it could tell it was a Ford which was a cheaper brand. They discontinued the brand in 2009.
Daimler Benz seemsmto misunderstand the American market, considering they took a bath in red ink with both Sterling and Chrysler.
