# Can't open the hood on a 1997 Olds Cutlass Supreme

The battery on our '97 Olds Cutlass Supreme died and when we went to open the hood to charge the plastic handle on the hood release cable broke. We can get a good grip on the cable but it does not release even with considerable pull with vice grips.  
Is there an alternate way to open the hood so we can charge the battery?

Have someone push down on the front of the hood while you pull with the pliers. Sometimes this reduces the force needed.
