I’m amazed we don’t have more of them here in the MA with all the commuter trains and the many crossings of roads. Plus the Boston Green, Red and Orange lines that cross roads at street level. I was on a green-line train once that hit a pedestrian.

Trains are rare through Florida. People are not used to seeing them and ignore the warnings.

In MA, clearly there are more trains so people get used to paying attention to warnings at crossings.

Just my guess.

Considering there is an average of 3 train derailments per day in the USA, yes folks that is over a 1,000 derailments per year, with over 2,000 incidents per year and a couple hundred deaths per year and over 700 injuries per year, and it has been this way for a long time now (average based from 1981 till recent), I am surprised we don’t hear more about them having crashes… So all though we don’t hear about it, doesn’t mean it is not happening… The injuries seem for the most part to be getting les and less every year, it was really bad in the 80’s and 90’s… 1981 had over 9,000 collisions alone…

Google for many more sites with statistics…
