1998 BMW 3 series has electric locks. Luggage comp lock stuck in a disengaged state. Holding key I hear repeated attempts to engage (loud clicking). Is there a manual override for this problem? I am close to removing the rear seats–which do not fold down (3.25ic).

Are you saying you can’t get your trunk open (luggage compartment) or you can’t get it to latch closed?
