I suppose all of the advice given on this website is worth what the posters paid for it. What’s the point then?
If someone takes advice regarding a mechanical problem, and it turns out to be wrong, it could result in additional repairs. If someone takes legal advice that turns out to be wrong, it could–quite literally–change his life for the worse.
Advice is supposed to be weighed against your better judgement. Only an idiot would take an unknown person’s advice without question. A smart person listens to everyone’s opinion and then decides which to discard and which to use as part of their decision making process. The point should be obvious; to get a broad spectrum view of the situation from people who have diverse perspectives, backgrounds and experience. But other people’s opinions are no substitute for exercising your own mind…
