Dear CArtalk, I have had probably one of the worse experiences lately with a mechanic, and now I must go to court over it. I am curious, since this discussion has come up in my research,how common would you say it is for an automotive inspector to take a payoff from an auto repair shop. I live in Ca. keep in mind… ---

Sorry about your woes. You own the absolute worst make of vehicle in terms of repairing it. I know three good local independent mechanics who have a sign up saying “No Land Rover Please”. They are nightmares of vehicles to maintain, repair, diagnose for both owner and mechanic. ---

How about providing some details as to why you feel you were ripped off and also explain what an automotive inspector is. I’m not familiar with that profession unless it’s a CA thing. ---

CA has no safety inspection…An emissions tester?? An insurance adjuster?? Who took what from whom and why?? ---

" have had probably one of the worse experiences lately with a mechanic…" Well, at least it apparently wasn’t one of your worst experiences–just one of the ones that was worse than some others. ;-)) That being said, you need to provide much more detail so that we have some idea of what type of problem you are talking about.
