Fortunately, I never said, or suggested in any way, that the government sold the GM stock.
Did you learn how to debate on the internet? Claiming the other guy said something he never said is a lame tactic. Perhaps you should use your noggin for more than just breaking boards in karate class.
“Whitey June 3 Report
Well, all I can say is conservatives should be glad the U.S. government is getting out of the car business. That was, after all, one of conservatives’ main objections to the bailout; that once Obama plunged us into socialism, he would never get us out as he promised he would. You know … the old “slippery slope” theory. At least by selling the shares, Obama is keeping that particular promise.”
It’s kind of sad you don’t know the difference between “the U.S. government is getting out of the car business” (which I said) and “the U.S. government has gotten out of the car business” (which I didn’t say).
It’s it’s also sad you don’t know the difference between “Obama is keeping that particular promise” (which I said) and “Obama has kept that particular promise” (which I didn’t say).
It’s an ongoing process, and I didn’t say it was finished. Nice try though. Perhaps you should go back to high school to learn how to comprehend what you read, or not. Keep making a fool of yourself. I don’t care.
Conservative’s big objection should be that people who read and have a memory aren’t buying that Obama plunge into socialism, slippery slope theme when George signed on first. TARP isn’t part of that plunge?
@dagosa: TARP absolutely was the first step on that slippery slope. Just because Bush did it doesn’t mean it was a good idea. I was against it at the time, but surprisingly, no one consulted me.
@whitey: I was being flippant. I know that difference and he hasn’t kept the promise yet, but he hasn’t broken it yet either, so I have to allow you the latitude to say “he is keeping that particular promise” I suppose.
“I didn’t get the memo” is a saying. People use it. Like “Oh, Guantanamo Bay is closed? I certainly didn’t get that memo. Another promise kept! What? It’s not? Oh well, at least he is keeping that particular promise.”
“Perhaps you should go back to high school to learn how to comprehend what you read, or not. Keep making a fool of yourself.”
It’s great to be a genius after the fact. Bailing out anyone is never the issue whether it be the banks, auto companies or our your own kids. It’s the competency in those agencies administering the bailout that is. Letting those institutions receive the funds determine the rules of the game, which for years, has been a strategy of some, always leaves the tax payer at risk. Managing public funds to maximize the good that can happen for the average citizen is often argued as socialism by those too incompetent to do it themselves. They often wouldn’t even recognize good governance in these matters.
Sadly, because people vote for those who think like they do and not for those who actually support programs that would benefit them, truth always takes a back seat to hypocrisy. TARP and the automotive bailouts are perfect examples and if Obama had lost the election, we Would be doing almost the same thing but the tax payers money would be at greater risk.
This is not a guess. While some of you administration complainers argue for accountability in fiscal discipline, under the watch of those you have supported, neither has been practiced and deficits increase and none has ever balanced a budget. Because, attempting it while actually helping the average citizen, is always practiced socialism. Some actually understand that we routinely practice socialism for our own good (as well as capitalism and autocracy) and they just don’t get it because their desire to label everything gets in the way.
I see no other reason for people to support those who would dump automotive bailouts and Medicare while taking advantage of and looking forward to the benefits of both. Those of you who criticize the administration for it’s handling of the bailout and now promote the purchase of GM products whose production has been a socialist enterprise know who you are.
“It’s great to be a genius after the fact.” I’m not going to try to address all your points because I think you’re addressing multiple people, but let me reiterate, I was against TARP I when it happened (NOT after the fact). This was not one of your more focused posts.
Gentlemen, allow me to suggest that we simply agree that there are wildly divergent opinions on this issue. Just as there are in the general population. let us not resort to labeling or name calling.
I feel safe in saying that the two divergent philosophies center around the belief in continued and perhaps even greater government intervention in the private sector using tax dollars vs. the belief that the government has already done so to excess and should not be doing so. Fortunately for us, we’re not in a position where we have to reach a compromise. We can disagree forever and there’ll be no effect. I suggest we simply agree that we disagree and leave it at that.
We’ll not sway one anothers’ philosophies, nor convince one another of the error of their ways. fortunately, we don’t have to.
