Back in the good ole daze

Before I retired and before Covid I did a lot of traveling (twice a month) and rented a lot of cars. Most rental car agency franchises were good, some were not so good. Rarely did I ever come across a car that wasn’t clean. Every once in a while, I’d find a car that someone smoked in.

Here is a clip about the Blue Indy cars, they were taken and returned to designated parking spots, if there was any designated hub for them to goto to occasionally get cleaned I wasn’t aware of it. It just didn’t work there.

“reference points to the defunct BlueIndy electric car-sharing service in Indianapolis, whose small, spartan blue cars were often criticized for being poorly maintained, dirty, and in the end, ended up in scrapyards or being repurposed, with some reports noting the poor condition or lack of cleaning, making them seem “dirty” to users, especially compared to the “clean” image they tried to project.

Why the “Dirty” Reputation?

Poor Maintenance: The service faced complaints about vehicles being dirty and needing upkeep, impacting user experience and reinforcing the “dirty” perception.”

When work rented me the 2018 Silverado back in 2018 for 2 months, as long as it had a full tank of gas they didn’t care how dirty it was when I returned it, but I did agree to not have animals in the truck… Yeah right, my babies went almost everywhere with me when not working, yeah I drove the truck when not at work also, shouldn’t of “made” me drive out of state 120 mile round trip everyday for work, that hour drive home was rough after being on my feet non stop 11 hours a day, with a bad knee (kneebone on kneebone)… Anyway, my puppies went almost everywhere with me, so I had to pay to get ride of all the dog hair, cost me $70.00… lol

BTW kneebone was spelt that way because leaving knee off of it blocked out b.o.n.e. or ■■■■, something I would imagine most all people no matter the gender has quite a few of… just ■■■■■■ or stu-pid… lol

And NO, I am not going to use a thesaurus to figure out a walk around for a word that is taught in schools by teachers…

I feel for you and can kind of relate to that . . . I have 2 kinds of arthritis (not the knees, fwiw) and have been going to physical therapy off and on the last 5 years or so. I’ve tried to get my act together by eating better, losing weight, at-home exercises, etc. I’m hoping to put in several more years at work

speaking of pets in cars . . . I personally find animal hair in cars I’m working on to be pretty unpleasant. If I’m working on a vehicle that is particularly revolting in some way, I’ll take the time to pick up the biggest pieces of trash, vacuum it out, etc. But it’s time well spent, imo

Worse than that, I once rented a car (sans ashtray) in which a previous renter had used one of the cup holders as an ashtray. Besides being smelly, it was a mess. I don’t recall which rental company this was.

Perhaps… Patella?

Especially since I ask for a smoke free vehicle. I think most rental agencies vehicles are suppose to be smoke free.

I can’t even wash my hands like a normal person with out my back hurting, I have degenerative disc disease, b.o.n.e spurs, arthritis and something else that I am having a brain fart remembering in my lower back, I’ve been seeing a pain specialist for over 10 years now, I do also have arthritis in many joints, back, neck, shoulders, hands, elbows (broke both about 10 years ago lol), and some other body parts, I worked (pushed myself) until one morning I just couldn’t get out of bed, I lost 100 (175 now) pounds since I took disability retirement and even eat somewhat better, hasn’t helped, my back just keeps hurting and getting worse, therapy didn’t help either, I helped install an engine for some friends back in August and haven’t recovered yet… And now my sciatica nerve gives me fits at times… So I feel your pain, our jobs take their toll on our bodies…
Sorry, didn’t mean to be long winded…

I agree, my dogs are kept in the back seat of my truck, I don’t let them up front and have the rear seats folded down with a folded thick u-haul blanket on top of them with a dog bed on top of that, so it stays pretty clean…
So if I need to have someone ride in the back seats, I simple remove the bed and blanket and unfold the seats and very little if any dog hair can be seen…

My brother’s family has a Labrador and they also.have a thick blanket on the back seats and cargo areas . . . In the suv . . . so they can take him wherever they want

Speaking of jobs . . .

A few years back, another mechanic . . Not me, fwiw . . . asked if he could wear a back brace at work

The supervisor said negative in no uncertain terms. His reasoning was if you need the back support, you clearly aren’t healthy and strong enough to perform the duties unsupported. The job duties literally includes being able to lift 80 pounds alone, without a back brace or someone else helping you

I can still do it, but I do have moderate scoliosis, back arthritis and shoulder arthritis . . . and other “minor” stuff :winking_face_with_tongue:

I had a full knee replacement…I was b.o.n.e on b.o.n.e for 3 years, and on my feet the whole time at work for 11-12 hours a day, I was in a lot of pain… lol
