I tried this before with no results. I’ve also posted in jeep groups in fb. No Answer yet. Is today my lucky day?
I have a 98 Jeep Wrangler TJ Sport 4.0 with Automatic transmission. The linkage is sloppy to the point I can’t put it in low or park. I got to neutral and set the hand brake. Has anybody dealt with this issue? Can it be adjusted or do I need to replace the cable?

I’m not a Jeep guy, but I’m thinking worn out shift linkage bushings

The transmission has a shift cable.

Check and see if the nut that attaches the shift lever to the shaft has come loose.
