Do you have any recommendations for a quality automobile museum in your area? In St Louis, Mo. the National Museum Of Transportation is great, mostly trains but they do have a great auto building. Also in Peoria, IL. the Wheels Of Time is real nice for a small to medium sized city.

I would like to hear what is in your area. Thanks from meaneyedcatz

Reno, Nevada has the National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection). It’s a great walkthrough in a town that has a lot of character in its own right. Their website:

> **[Home - National Automobile Museum](https://automuseum.org/)**
>
> The National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) has a “Wow!” factor you don’t often find in a museum. Located in downtown Reno Nevada.

When I went through in 2007, they had what they claimed to be the original Batmobile.

The Alfred P. Sloan museum in Flint, MI is fantastic. I have been to the one in Reno, it is also pretty good, almost too much to see (sensory overload).

The Flint museum… I don’t know, anyone who is rooting for the Big 3 to nosedive should definitely walk through there at least once. It’s a great tribute to Michigan and the domestic auto industry.

Merle Norman is open, I believe, only on Saturdays. You must make an appointment. It’s a great tour, and free.

In Los Angeles, there’s the Peterson Museum, as in Peterson Publications (Hot Rod, Car Craft, etc).

Near Los Angeles, at hte Pomona Fairgrounds is the National Hot Rod Association museum. It’s not terribly big, but it’s got quite a collection of old drag racers.

In South Bend, Indiana, The Studebaker National Museum has everything from the company’s early Conestoga wagons, to the last sedan (made in Canada), to experimental models and show cars from both Studebaker and Packard. While I have never had the opportunity to visit it, I have seen photos of the museum’s collection, and it appears to be incredible. Some day, I will make a pilgrimage.

For Mercedes appreciators, don’t overlook the Classic Car Center in Irvine, CA (that is, if you can’t make it to the original MBz museum in Germany).

The Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, PA is a pretty nice museum tracing the history of the automobile from the horseless carriage through the 1960s.

The exhibits change now and then (pick-up trucks, motorcycles, customs and race cars, etc), and there is a nice collection of busses and commercial vehicles in the lower level.

The AACA museum is well worth a visit.

The Henry Ford Museum is pretty bizarre-- almost as bizarre as the man himself! My favorite part is Thomas Edison’s last breath in a test-tube.

I really hope the museum doesn’t get swept up in the trouble with the Big 3 these days.
