Oh, wow. I’m truely sorry to hear the story. Not in my wildest dreams would I have guessed why the cylinder was being replaced.
Unfortunately, with late model cars, the airbag system, security system, and whatnot can make repairing this type of damage expensive. If you have comprehensive insurance, you should definitely call them if you haven’t already.
Sincere best.
Thanks. It seems really expensive to me, but…
The price quoted to you seems a little high. Those parts really aren’t terribly difficult or labor intensive to replace, although I’m 90% certain your new lock cylinder will need to be taken to a locksmith to be “coded”, so you will have the same key. There is no work-around for that, they are made to need that done so you CAN keep your existing key. As far as reprogramming the Passlock system, that is an easy one. Once the new parts are installed, you turn the key to “run”, wait ten minutes, and start the car. That is literally the entire reprogramming procedure. If they say it’s expensive because they have to reprogram the Passlock system, it’s time to go elsewhere.
thanks mark, i’ve heard that from multiple sources. i’m pretty sure this guy is giving me the runaround.
