What happens to the storage compartment lid when air bags deploy? I have visions of getting smacked in the nose by a flying plastic air bag lid on the steering wheel or the glove box if the air bag ever deploys.

They are cut on the back side. The only thing that hits you is the bag. You wont know that it hit you till little while after. I have people come in to the shop after there air bag went off. First look at them you knew the air bag went off. About half would swear the air bag did not go off.

The lid will hinge back and only the bag will mash your nose, eyeglasses and collar bone.

"The lid will hinge back and only the bag will mash your nose, eyeglasses and collar bone. "

That is only true if the person in question is belted-in properly and if he/she keeps his/her feet off of the dashboard.

When you hear of someone who is killed in a low-moderate speed crash, in a car equipped with airbags, it is almost always because he/she was not using the seat belt. Unless you are held in the proper position, via the seatbelt, the airbag cannot help to prevent collision-related injuries and death.

And, for those passengers who think that an appropriate seating position is with one or both feet planted on the dashboard, the end result of that mistake will be one or two dislocated hips and probable broken legs, in the event of a collision. The idiotic way that some people choose to sit in a car is almost mind-boggling.
