I accidentally added about 2 oz.'s of brake fluid to the power steering reservoir in my car. My mechanic said it would not hurt it, is he right?

It probably won’t but I’m not a gambler either. Sounds like a good time to drain and replace the power steering fluid.

Not true!

Brake fluid is a glycol-ether based fluid.

Where with power steering fluid it’s a mineral oil based fluid.

So the seals in the power steering system might not tolerate the brake fluid.

Get the power steering system flushed before possible damage occurs.
