Hello

I own a 2004 VW Jetta TDI. On my way home from work today, I had problems with acceleration. Whenever I was idling at a stop sign and pressed the gas, the car would not move, then eventually lurched forward. As long as I didn’t slow down, the car accelerated fine. It was almost as if the car slipped into neutral. Any idea on the issue?

Whens’s the last time you replaced the fuel filter? Other maintenance?

That might mean the transmission was neutralizing. Or not enough hydraulic pressure was being developed at the clutches in the transmission until the engine RPM’s increased. Have you’ve checked the level and condition of the transmission fluid?

What transmission? (BTW a TDI does not have a gas pedal. 🙂

Thanks all! I purchased it used last year and supposedly everything was recently replaced by the dealer. It reverses fine- does that make a difference? And yes, sorry- Not gas pedal!

Unless he gave you the records, I wouldn’t trust that the work was done.

You might try re posting your question at [tdiclub.com](http://tdiclub.com). There is some great advice here but the diesel heads over there might be able to answer your question.
