I have heard about those mythical 4-cylinder Toyota Sienna vans, but never seen one in person. Do these really exist, or was this just a theoretical option, like the 1997-1999 Toyota Camry with hand-crank windows, which are about as rare as a hen’s tooth. I know Chrysler made a lot of 4-cylinder minivans, and the Caravan/Voyager with the 2.4L engine is definitely on my list of vehicles that I’d love to own.
I think you meant to reply to Nevada, but I don’t see anywhere that he said a Sienna ever had a 4 cylinder in it, only that spark plugs are much easier to replace on a 4 cylinder engine…
Now the Tacoma’s have always been offered with a 4 cylinder, and the 1st gens with a 2.4 & 2.7L as well as a V6, 2nd and 3rd gens 2.7L 4 cylinders and a V6, but now the 4th gens are only offered with 4 cylinder turbo… point being, with the right gearing a 4 cylinder can still be used for heavy vehicles…
I will admit though that putting a Camry engine in a truck was probably not the best thing Toyota ever did, but with my double OD 6 speed automatic, if I knew it wouldn’t affect my warranty, I would re-gear the truck with the 4 cylinder rear gear w/4.30:1 instead of the V6 3.91:1 (3.909:1) for better off idle acceleration…
BTW It looks like at least the 2011 & 2012 Sienna’s had a 2.7L option…
There are 12 2011-2012 2.7 L Siennas for sale on cars.com, country-wide.
Dodge used an I-4 engine in the Caravan in the 1G thorough 3G minivans.

You might want to do a little more research next time before posting…
2) Timing Belt Problems
We’re moving onto yet another issue that really isn’t a true design flaw. However, the timing belt is an important standard maintenance item. Toyota 3MZ-FE engines are interference engines. This means there is some overlap in the area in which the pistons and valves travel. This isn’t a problem when the 3.3 V6 ignition timing is on par.

Pretty sure that is a timing belt…
I always understood the above Toyota 3.3L 3MZ-FE engine was interference fit through those years.
However, Gates doesn’t think so. If you look at the Gates link earlier in this thread, they state that only the V8 Toyota engines throughout those years were interference.
