A used car, to replace my Chevy Volt hatch back?

Doesn’t look like it’s an easy conversion. Only on the top trim level with 17in wheels.

Another vote for buying a new (remanufactured) battery pack. In terms of dollars per miles driven, this will likely be your cheapest option.

You mean $5k with 18months warranty - assuming install is included.
$5k/7k miles = $ 0.71 per mile
71cents per mile

Not sure why you are using those numbers ? It is quite possible that a refurbished battery could last a lot longer than 7000 miles .

Completely agree. How long did the original battery last? I would expect a remanufactured battery to last at least half as long.

Chevy batts are age dependent.
I used 7k miles to cover the warranty of 18months → rounded it off to 7k.
Also Greentec does seem to charge for install - easily $2k.
So worst case scenario is about 70cents.
I am unsure if Greentec provides age & mileage of their batt.

The issue is the batt ages on its own (whether you drive or not) as opposed to how much it was used!
GM does not make new batt. And the price never came down!

That means nothing because the battery will not just stop after 18 months. You are really making this way too difficult.

Is there a recommendation for another used plug in hybrid other than Prius with a hatchback or small SUV?

The Rav4 Prime.

Saw a Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid today that had rempt tags an Carvana paper plates still on it, there are a few on the market but it’s not nearly as common as a Prius Prime or Rav4. Could also consider the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

I don’t know but my brother in law loves Mitsubishi, and despite having nothing but problems with the brand, he brags about how nice they are.

His wife, which is my sister of course, offers him a bet every time they get a new vehicle. The bet is to reward whichever vehicle goes 100k miles before any issues something nice.

At 60k miles his Mitsubishi needed a new exhaust system. At 90k the radio stopped playing. And now he’s having issues with the windows not scrolling up and down.

Sister’s Camry is at a little above 200k miles and everything works.

I’d prefer a Toyota hybrid or plug-in personally based on dozens of examples owned by family and friends. The Mitsubishi is more of an unkown to me because we don’t have a local dealer anymore and the closest one is almost 1hr away.

We had a 88 Grand Voyager that was a fluster cluck to own in it’s early years but after spending lots of money on a rebuilt transmission at 80K and the entire electronic control system for the engine one part at a time it settled down into something reliable enough to get around town. Having the power windows fail was a cheap and easy fix by comparison.

Then, factor-in the reality that some current Mitsubishi vehicles are essentially re-badged Nissans, and things could get really bad for an owner.

Interesting stuff. Learned something new today.

Mitsubishi no longer has the resources for the development of new vehicles, so they continue to re-hash older models, and they use Nissan’s designs as the basis for “new” Mitsubishis.

I think you meant Eclipse not the Eagle Talon, which is the same car, but if I didn’t point it out someone would have…

Don’t for get the 3000GT VR-4 w/ twin turbos, AWD and AWS…

The EVO is pretty bad a$$ also…
And the EVO 8 RS was a factory race ready (strip a little more and just add safety equipment and you were ready to race, matter a fact, it was so stripped down that is was Standard with manual windows, manual locks, manual mirrors, no air conditioning, no interior trunk release, no radio (although the harness and speaker brackets were fitted in case the owner wanted that to change), and much more (less?). One sun visor remained for the driver, though the vanity mirror was removed, it had 15" steel wheels (cause new owners would probably go with 17" customs) with 205/65R15’s and a gas tank that was reduced by 1.3 gallons… Probably more stuff but you get the point…

So to all you, I don’t want any upgrades and the most stripped down model, here is the perfect car for you, the EVO 8 RS… but the price will scare you…

You get the Smart - A** prize this week! Congratulations!

I knew somebody would point that out, it was the best picture I could quickly find.

I put that Eclipse ahead of the 3000GT VR-4 because it was the first car to combine DOHC, 16 valves, turbo, AWD, and nearly 100hp/liter in a body that made me look.
