I recently took my '98 Blazer in for a check up and they recommended the following work to be done:

Replace intake manifold gaskets (leaking coolent)-

 $260 labor and $125 parts

Replace both sets of oil cooler lines and reseal the adaptor-

 $162 labor and $149 parts

The car has low mileage- 65,000. I have not noticed any problems.

This is the first time I have gone to this mechanic. Do you feel this is a fair estimate?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Both estimates sound reasonable. I had the intake manifold gasket replaced on my 2000 Blazer at 45k. The dealer paid for 50% of the repair, my out of pocket cost was around $180 - $190. The original oil cooler lines on this vintage Blazer are known for leaking. I think I paid around $250 - $275 to have mine replaced. The more important repair is the intake manifold gasket, since any coolant in the sump will displace the oil from the crankshaft bearings. How do they know there is a leak. Did they find any coolant in the oil?

Hi Ed B.,

Thank you for your reply. He didn’t mention coolant in the oil. He just said that it leaking coolant.
