So my wife is driving the '91 Pathfinder 4x4 (150k miles) and the automatic suddenly feels like it shifted into neutral. Engine is fine, park is park, but all other gears = neutral. Fluid has been maintained and was changed a year ago. No warning symptoms, just sudden loss of connection between engine and wheels. Shifting into 4WD makes no difference. Any ideas? ---

"Fluid was changed a year ago." But what is it’s level and condition now? How many miles before it was changed? How many miles since? ---

Fluid has been maintained at proper level and is good color and smell, only about 5K miles since change. This was the first change since a full rebuild at 110k. I’m hoping for something simple like a bad line pressure solenoid.
