BTW, the number of cylinders has nothing to do with the number of “cycles.”

Actually, the 2 cycle engine didn’t work out too well in cars. The Saab had free wheeling so that the engine wouldn’t be turning over fast with little oil to the bearings. One could lock out the free wheeling, but going down a steep incline would starve the bearings with the engine turning over rapidly. I think the oil/gas mixture made the engines carbon up rather rapidly. I thought that the Saab and DKW were interesting cars at the time.

I know that the number of cylinders has nothing to do with the number of cycles. I’ve seen 2 cycle boat motors in single cylinder, 2 cylinder, 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder configurations.
