Why does my 2023 Chevy Equinox AWD (5.3q) take more oil that FWD (4.2q).

Could be just b/c there is room for a bigger oil pan in the AWD configuration. The car’s design engineers may prefer to use the largest oil pan that will fit. The more oil there is, the cooler the engine runs, provides better lubrication. 5.3 q is a good thing, longer engine life than 4.2 q.

Most of the time when the same engine has different oil capacity’s in the same vehicle it is the oil pan size and or an added oil cooler…

could be different engine, different oil pan, oil cooler, etc.

In the grand scheme of things, is a bigger oil capacity an issue for you?

Could be compensation for the engine working harder with awd, but doesn’t make much difference why.

The engine is the GM 1.5 Liter Turbo I-4 Ecotec LSD Engine. No issue for me, just curious as to why.

Oil cooler sounds like a good guess.

Why the different amounts ? Because they are 2 different models and that is what it takes to be full.
