Any car with a warranty wouldn’t be sold with electronics that are this fragile. Batteries fail open circuit all the time, and if this damaged electronics there would be a lot of money lost to warranty claims.

I never thought of that. There would have to be a second battery as running the starter will bring a battery down to as low as 8 Volts. This would dim all the lights and upset most of the electronics in the vehicle.

Really? These electronics rarely fail, extremely rare during the warranty phase. But damage can be caused by the consumer attempting ‘repairs’ or improper jump starting.
Do not read the various threads about ECM failures?
Home electronics are the same. Though I have not yet had a problem due to a power surge, it does happen.

What do you consider to be improper jump starting?

When the AAA wrecker driver connects the jumper clamps reversed. These are the problems I see, vehicle electronics are much better protected today than they were 30 years ago.
